Let’s learn 3 fast ways to scan Instagram QR codes — using the Instagram app, your phone camera (iPhone/Android), or scanning a saved image. Works for profiles & business cards.
Method A: Scan using the Instagram app
Open the Instagram app and go to your profile (bottom-right).
Tap the three horizontal lines (menu) in the top-right and select QR Code (or tap Share profile and choose QR code).
On the QR code screen, tap the camera / scan icon or the Scan QR code option to open the scanner.
Point your camera at the other person’s Instagram QR code — Instagram will detect it and open their profile. Tap Follow or Message as needed.
Pro tip: If someone sends you a QR image (chat or email), save the image, open the Instagram QR screen and use the Select Photo option to scan the saved image from your gallery.
Method B — Use your phone camera / Google Lens
iPhone: Open the Camera app and point at the QR code. Tap the notification that appears to open the Instagram profile.
Android: Try the Camera app first — if it doesn’t detect the QR, open Google Lens (or Chrome → Lens) and scan; tap the link to open the Instagram profile.
When to use: Great for printed QR codes (business cards, posters) or when you don’t want to dig through the Instagram UI.
Method C — Scan a QR image sent in chat
Save the QR image to your phone.
Open Instagram → Profile → Menu → QR Code → tap camera icon → Select Photo.

Camera doesn’t detect QR: Move closer/further, clean the lens, or try a different scanner (Google Lens).
QR image is small or unclear in chat: Save and zoom the image before using Instagram’s “Select Photo” scan option.
Menu/QR option missing in your Instagram app: Update the Instagram app to the latest version — features and menu labels change between releases.
