Publishing your PowerBI report to the web can significantly enhance your data storytelling and accessibility. This step-by-step guide will help you navigate the process effectively.
Step 1: Prepare Your Report in PowerBI Desktop
Start by opening PowerBI Desktop. Create a new report or open an existing one. For this tutorial, we will use a sample report with basic data, such as person, location, date, ad spend, impressions, and units sold.
Once your data is in place, save your report.
Step 2: Publish Your Report
Click on the Publish button in PowerBI Desktop. This action will upload your report to the PowerBI cloud service.
Navigate to your PowerBI workspace in your web browser (app.powerbi.com) to ensure your report has been successfully published.
Step 3: Enable Publish to Web Feature
If you do not see the option to publish to the web, it may be disabled by your administrator. To enable it, go to the Office admin panel and find the PowerBI admin center.
Locate the Tenant Settings and scroll to the export and sharing settings. Enable the Publish to Web option.
Step 4: Publish to the Web
After enabling the feature, return to your report in PowerBI. Click on File, then select Embed Report, and finally choose Publish to Web.
Read the warnings carefully, ensuring that sharing your data aligns with your company's policies. If you're ready, click Continue and then Publish to generate a unique URL for your report.
Step 5: Share Your Report
Copy the generated link and share it with anyone who needs access to your report. They can view your data directly in their web browser, making it easy to disseminate insights among colleagues.
