Creating threads on X allows you to break down complex ideas or narratives into digestible segments, it is a is a super handy way to share longer thoughts or stories, keeping your audience hooked and boosting engagement. This guide will show you how to master thread creation for maximum impact and reach.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to get you started, whether you're on your computer or mobile device.
Creating Threads on Desktop/Laptop
Navigate to X.com/home: Start by heading over to your X news feed. This is your central hub for posting.
Initiate Your First Tweet: Look for the "What is happening?" box at the top. This is where you'll type the first part of your thread. Many users like to indicate the thread's progression, for example, by typing "1/8" before their message.
Add Subsequent Messages: Once you've typed your first message, you'll see a small plus icon next to the "Post" button. Click this icon to add a new tweet to your thread.
Continue Building Your Thread: Keep clicking the plus icon and typing your messages (e.g., "2/8", "3/8", etc.) until your entire narrative is complete. You can always edit previous messages in the thread if needed.
Post Your Thread: Once you're happy with all the segments, simply click the "Post all" button. X will then publish your entire thread as a connected series of tweets.
Creating Threads on Mobile Devices
The process on mobile is just as straightforward!
Tap the Blue Plus Button: On your mobile device, locate and tap the blue plus button usually found in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen.
Start Your First Tweet: Begin by typing your initial message. Similar to desktop, you might want to start with "1/4" or "1/X" to indicate it's a thread.
Add More Tweets to the Thread: Just above your keyboard, you'll find that familiar plus icon. Tap it to add a new tweet to your thread.
Customize and Expand: Continue adding as many tweets as you need. You can also go back and customize each message individually, adding more detail or a "hook" to encourage readers to continue.
Publish Your Thread: When all your messages are ready, hit the "Post all" button at the very top.
